What am I really looking to gain from this?”

By asking ourselves this question, "What am I really looking to gain from this?" We  might find that we hope to obtain greater confidence or validation from others. Examining the reasons behind our competitiveness allows us to see what we need to work on internally. Being competitive is usually an external manifestation of an inner deficit—we hide our fears behind our triumphs. We think that others look up to us because of our drive. When we take the time to look at the deeper reasons that compel us, however, we begin to realize that we are in fact covering up for our own lack of value. Winning lets us prove to others that we are worthy when in fact we need to develop this sense of value in ourselves. Finding out why we need to win will give us greater insights into the aspects of our lives that we need to cultivate further.
